Academic Life

Radnor House has a philosophy of developing a genuine love of learning.  This is achieved though a commitment to the following principles;

        - challenging students in a stimulating and caring environment,
        - giving them a true sense of worth and fostering individual responsibility for learning,
        - encouraging them in the pursuit of excellence,
        - promoting initiative and leadership to develop their maturity, confidence and sense of responsibility,
        - fostering an environment where learning and knowledge are valued in their own right,
        - nurturing in every individual an ideal of service to the community through active engagement,
        - promoting a ‘can do’ culture for our students to seize the opportunity of the moment.

    Every student is challenged by an academic curriculum that is dynamic and innovative. We have high expectations and aim to instil an intrinsic desire to learn in each student, thereby equipping our young people with wide ranging skills to make them outstanding citizens, whatever their age.

We want our students to have enquiring minds and to be creative in their thirst for knowledge. We want them to have the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and to be motivated to be leaders of the future, whilst making significant contributions to the society in which they live.

We constantly question the way we operate, as we believe only by constantly questioning and re-assessing, can we hope to improve the academic opportunities we present to our students. Every student at Radnor House is encouraged to be a fully active member of our community thereby enabling effective learning to take place. We go out of our way to create a consultative, self critical, motivational, dynamic and vibrant school to enthuse and excite our students in their learning.

Our teachers are expected to use a variety of methods to reach out to every individual student. A structured environment ensures that effective learning takes place through lessons that address the abilities, aptitudes and learning styles of every student.

The school day at Radnor House is built around five one-hour academic lessons every day together with pastoral and recreational time. In the Preparatory school these one hour lessons are subdivided as appropriate. We have the latest technology throughout the school to support teaching and learning and there has been considerable investment into the infrastructure of the school and into classroom resources.

Our marking policy centres round emphasising the positive and outlining ways to improve and set challenging targets. There is a system of continuous assessment throughout a student’s time at Radnor House. We report regularly to parents and we encourage an open door policy to visit the school to discuss any aspect of your child’s education. Regular surveys will give parents direct input into developments at Radnor House coupled with our desire to foster a 360 degree feedback involving the school, our students and their parents.

We encourage every student to work hard, as this is the key to success enabling the whole community to celebrate academic achievement. We are mindful that every student has specific skills that enable them to shine inside and outside of the education we offer at Radnor House.  We want to know of every success so that we can share and celebrate it at every opportunity with other members of our community.
